I think it is not fair to group all religions. For exapmle, atheistic Buddhism stresses non-violence, meditation, and, at least some factions of it, are atheistic. Therefor, your question, which obviously implies that the elimination of all religion would be a good thing, is not true. By the details, you are obviously referring to the more close-minded, dogmatic religions that have a negative impact on people's thinking. Will they fade away? I don't think so. There are two things people will not give up; alcohol and religion, and I believe they won't give them up for the same reason. Life has two seemingly contradictory aspects:(1) the absurdity of a life in which we have to reconcile ourselves to our ultimate death, and (2) life tends to be rather mundane.alcohol and religion give people an escape from both. And, in all fairness, we all escape. Whether it be into a good novel, or a movie, or some other form of entertainment, most of us do not live in the moment . We all need to escape occasionally. Unfortunately, religion can be a more dangerous, violent form of escape. It creates very tight bonds, and sometimes the distinction between a gang, mob, and religious group is not very clear
